Capital University of Physical Education And Sports
Capital University of Physical Education and Sport (CUPES) is the only sports university among Beijing municipal universities, and it is designated as a High-level Characteristic University supported by the classified development policy for Beijing municipal institutions of higher education.
Founded in 1956, the university was originally named Beijing Physical Education School. It was restructured into Beijing Institute of Physical Education in 1960 and renamed Capital University of Physical Education and Sport in 2000. Over nearly 70 years since its establishment, the university has cultivated nearly 40,000 high-level sports talents for China and Beijing Municipality, with a large number of alumni growing into backbones and leading figures in the fields of sports and education.
In the ShanghaiRanking's ranking of Chinese sports universities, CUPES has steadily ranked 3rd nationwide for five consecutive years. In June 2021, the establishment of the Beijing International Olympic College relying on Capital University of Physical Education and Sport was approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Central Organization Establishment Committee. It represents the first cultural and intellectual heritage of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
